Development

For developers

The national standard of the design and construction of all new-build residential properties in England is set out in the Code of Sustainable Homes (CSH) which was launched by Government in 2007.

The code consists of a set of sustainable design principles covering performance in nine key areas, including: Energy & CO2 emissions, Water, Surface water run-off, Waste, Pollution and Ecology. In addition, CSH imposes a permitted maximum average personal water consumption, depending on the code rating of the house.

Meeting the water, sewerage and drainage needs of developers within CSH today requires a multi-faceted, integrated solution and Albion Water’s track record in this domain makes it ideally placed to meet any development challenge.

Typically, we will devise a system which embraces rain water collection and re-utilisation of grey water to minimise demand for potable water and reduce sewerage volumes. On-site sewage treatment using the latest near-to-zero carbon technologies is also something we specialise in, having pioneered this at BedZED www.zedfactory.com.

We also work closely with providers of micro-renewable heat and power generation technologies, so that all CSH criteria can be addressed in a fully-integrated manner, in conjunction with the developer.

Our areas of expertise include: offsite water and/or sewerage costs, infrastructure charges, site drainage, peak or average demand calculations, multi-utility coordination, scheduling, self-lay difficulties, adoption issues, sustainable urban drainage systems, sustainability targets, water use efficiency targets and water company communications.
