The water quality of Britain’s rivers and natural water ways has improved dramatically over the past 20 years. This is evident in the increasing numbers of otters thriving in our river banks.
By focusing on the major sources of pollution, the Environment Agency and water companies have improved the biological and chemical quality of our rivers, with over 72% of rivers in the UK classed as excellent or good, up 55% since 1990 (source: Environment Agency).
Using the European Water Framework Directive (WFD), attention has now moved onto other sources of pollution, enabling the continued protection, enhancement and health of public, animals, plants and habitats.
Albion Water is committed to improving the quality of our rivers and natural water ways, working with the Environment Agency and the WFD to ensure we exceed expectations and deliver environmental benefits that enhance the local community and generations to come.
Drinking Water
Improvements in the appearance of water are evident to many consumers as water companies have invested heavily in the infrastructure that delivers water to your tap.
Less evident to consumers will be the continued modernisation of water treatment works, developing staff, understanding and improving ways in which all water companies work throughout the UK.
Albion Water works closely with the Drinking Water Inspectorate to ensure that at all times the water supplied to you is both wholesome and complies with the water regulations.
